The Chemical Brothers – The devil is in the details

hanna ost

Not since Steelers Wheel’s Stuck in the middle with you has a “pop bubble gum favorite” sounding song had such an ironic  impact in a movie.  Check out the song below, The devil is in the details.    Although the movie kind of falls apart at the end and the energy and verve at the beginning falls flat after the first half an hour, I’d still recommend Hanna for the excellent Soundtrack done by The Chemical Brothers.

Martin Solveig featuring Dragonette-Hello

Martin Solveig’s video for Hello.  Heavily influenced by the works of Wes Anderson.  I don’t mind.  Cameos by famous people.  IF mp3’s moved when you played them this track would be vapourized in my iphone by now.  Dragonette, so hot right now.

The Waldo Ultimatum

While neither Waldo nor the Bourne movies are particularly timely, we thought this parody by The Imponderables with Waldo taking on the agency that erased his identity is just too funny to pass up.

Spotify

Spotify is a music streaming service with desktop applications available for LinuxMicrosoft Windows and Mac OS X.

Developed by Swedish startup “Spotify AB”, the proprietaryDRM-based software allows unlimited streaming of selected music from a multitude of major and independent record labels including SonyEMIWarner Music Group and Universal with virtually no bufferingdelay.[2][3] Music can also be imported from either iTunes[4] or directly from local files.[5]

An ad-supported version of the software is free to download in SwedenSpainNorwayFinlandFrance, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom.[6][7]. For a monthly fee, users can upgrade to a “Premium” account, which offers higher bitrate streams, offline access to music and use of Spotify on mobile devices running iOSAndroid or Symbian.[8] Currently only consumers with a PayPal account or a credit card issued in one of the launch countries can activate a Premium account. A “Day Pass” was available, which gave unlimited advertising-free listening for 24 hours; this option was removed when Spotify “Unlimited” was introduced in May 2010.

Music can be browsed by artist, album, record label, genre or playlist as well as by direct searches, and a link allows the listener to purchase selected material via partner retailers.[9] Launched in October 2008, Spotify has approximately seven million users as of May 19th, 2010; about 250,000 of these are paying members.[10]

Buena Vista Social Club : Update

In 1999 Wim Wenders released his documentary of the same name, in which he profiles the legendary Buena Vista Social Club musicians, recording their experiences as they perform in Cuba and abroad, eventually appearing at New York’s Carnegie Hall. Hailed as “splendid … a sheer delight” (New York Post), “glowing-embers documentary ” (Washington Post) and “more incisive introduction to the peculiar world of Buena Vista than any live performance could provide” (The New York Observer), the film helped immortalize both the music and its now-famous practitioners who had been living in near poverty, all but forgotten in their own country.

Now, the Buena Vista Social Club comes alive once more in this vibrant collection of photographs, film stills and text from director Wim Wenders and his wife, Donata.

Taken during the filming of the documentary, these images are as enigmatic, sensual, and haunting as the music they celebrate. Included here are portraits of the artists themselves – including Compay Segundo, Ibrahim Ferrer, and Ruben Gonzales – recording and performing their magical music.

Scenes of Havana street life, its gloriously decaying architecture, and its colorful denizens are accompanied by texts of their most famous songs, in both Spanish and English versions, as well as contributions from Wim and Donata Wenders and Ry Cooder.

The perfect companion for fans of the CD and the movie, this magnificently produced volume also stands alone as a visual treat for anyone with a fascination for Cuba and its incredible, enchanting music.
